It is with great excitement that the Lismore Symphony Orchestra in partnership with 11 piece band Soul’d announces their inaugural “Proms by the Beach” concert series. July 13 & 14 will see both groups bringing an exciting and dynamic mix of classical and modern music in a massive celebration of symphonic and vocal masterworks.
A program of two well integrated and complementary halves will see the first half directed and conducted by the talented Sonya Lopes and will include the famous ‘Dambusters March’, Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘Capriccio Espagnol’ and Elgar’s ‘Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory)’.
While a traditional “proms style repoitre” will form the backbone of the first half, the programme is specifically designed for breaking down barriers associated with traditional classical music and provide an opportunity for a full symphony orchestra to perform in a in an atmosphere that is more engaging and involved with the audience to encourage participation. It is with these barriers down that the orchestra is excited to perform for a new audience the type of music that is traditionally considered “off-limits” to all but the most discerning of classical music lovers.
The second half of the show promises to provide an experience of power when Soul’d will play alongside the orchestra with the support of lead vocalists Laura Nobel and Jason Kafoa. The collaboration will present original arrangements of ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’, ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’, ‘I will Survive’ and several other big hits.
It is with two halves combined that the Proms by the Beach concept is founded – a concert built on the audience having fun and engaging with the performance with participation encouraged throughout. Throughout the performance, table seating, catering and a bar will add to the cabaret-style atmosphere and ambiance, making it not only a performance, but a great event out for friends, families and groups that have been begging for something both different and special.
